Staphylococcal Enterotoxin E (SEE) is a heat-stable protein toxin produced by Staphylococcus aureusand belongs to the E serotype of staphylococcal enterotoxins. It is a critical pathogenic factor responsible for bacterial food poisoning.

SEE is secreted by pathogenic Staphylococcus aureusstrains carrying the seegene. It is one of the eight major serotypes of staphylococcal enterotoxins (A–E, G–I). Foods with a high risk of SEE contamination include soft cheeses made from unpasteurized raw milk, ready-to-eat meats, leftover rice, and chilled processed cakes. Notably, France reported the first documented large-scale foodborne outbreak caused by this specific serotype in 2009.
