Canine coronavirus is a single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus with 6–7 polypeptides, four of which are glycopeptides. It lacks RNA polymerase and neuraminidase. Canine coronavirus is a viral pathogen that severely impacts the dog breeding industry, economic animal farming, and wildlife conservation. It can cause gastroenteritis in dogs of varying severity, characterized by frequent vomiting, diarrhea, depression, anorexia, and other symptoms. The disease occurs throughout the year but is more prevalent in winter. Infected dogs are the primary source of transmission, spreading the virus via the respiratory tract, digestive tract, feces, and contaminated materials. Once the disease breaks out, it is difficult to control within the same litter or kennel, often leading to widespread infection. The disease is frequently associated with co-infections involving canine parvovirus, rotavirus, and other gastrointestinal pathogens. Puppies are particularly vulnerable, with a high mortality rate.
