As a food additive, TBHQ is permitted in more than 20 countries, including the United States. In China, it was approved in 1992 for use in oils, fats, oil-containing foods, dried fish products, biscuits, instant noodles, canned oil-containing foods, cured meat products, etc. The maximum allowable level in food is 200 mg/kg. In the United States, TBHQ alone or in combination with BHA and BHT must not exceed 0.02% of the oil or fat content. Its antioxidant effect on fats and oils is superior to that of BHA, BHT, and propyl gallate (PG) at equal concentrations.Performance Characteristics:
