Silwet L-77 is a high-performance organosilicone surfactant based on alkoxylated polytrisiloxane. It drastically reduces the surface tension of water—from 72.4 mN/m down to approximately 21 mN/m at a 0.1% concentration, compared to around 30 mN/m, the lowest achievable with conventional surfactants. Silwet L-77 readily wets virtually all types of leaf surfaces, significantly enhancing spray coverage on target organisms. With exceptional penetrating power and strong rainfastness, it markedly improves pesticide utilization efficiency, boosting efficacy by 30–50%. It exhibits low toxicity and is environmentally safe.

Silwet L-77 can be incorporated into formulations of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, plant growth regulators, foliar fertilizers, and biological agents. It is also a commonly used surfactant for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana and Brassica napus, delivering a transformation efficiency over 40 times higher than that of NP-40.
