African Swine Fever (ASF)

African Swine Fever (scientific name: Infection with African swine fever virus, abbreviation: ASF) is an acute, hemorrhagic, and highly contagious disease caused by the African Swine Fever virus (ASFV). It infects domestic pigs and various wild boars, characterized by a short disease course, with mortality rates of up to 100% in peracute and acute cases. The clinical symptoms of ASF resemble those of classical swine fever, and diagnosis can only be confirmed through laboratory testing.
