Fenfluramine is an amphetamine-derived appetite suppressant with mild central stimulant effects. It can lower blood pressure, enhance peripheral tissue utilization of glucose to reduce blood sugar, and decrease cholesterol, triglycerides, and total plasma lipids. Clinically, it is used for simple obesity and for obese patients with comorbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, anxiety disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. It also shows some efficacy in treating autism spectrum disorder.
