Background:
Metamizole (Metamizole Sodium Tablets) is a compound formed by combining aminophenazone and sodium sulfite. It is highly soluble in water, with faster and stronger antipyretic and analgesic effects compared to aminophenazone. It is generally not a first-line drug and is used for emergency fever reduction only in cases of acute high fever, critical illness, and when no other effective antipyretic is available.
On November 2, 2021, in accordance with the Regulations for the Implementation of the Drug Administration Law of the People's Republic of Chinaand the Measures for Drug Registration, the National Medical Products Administration decided to revoke the drug registration certificates for 34 drugs, including Metamizole Tablets.
Antipyrine is used as an analytical reagent for nitrates, nitrites, and iodine. It is also used for determining elements that can form complex cations and for the gravimetric analysis of titanium.
Metamizole is derived from multiple structural modifications of antipyrine.
