Betamethasone is an adrenocortical hormone drug. Its effects on glucose metabolism and anti-inflammatory action are approximately 15 times stronger than hydrocortisone, but its sodium-retaining effect is over 100 times greater. It is primarily used to treat conditions such as primary adrenal insufficiency, hypoaldosteronism with low plasma renin, orthostatic hypotension due to autonomic neuropathy, and allergic or autoimmune inflammatory diseases.This is a prescription medication. Long-term use may lead to adverse effects like iatrogenic Cushing's syndrome and increased infection risk. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to steroid hormones and severe psychiatric disorders. Avoid inhalation of dust and wear protective clothing when handling.
