It inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS) or acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS), blocking branched-chain amino acid synthesis and leading to weed death. It is primarily used in soybean fields to control broadleaf weeds (e.g., velvetleaf, pigweeds, Euphorbia heterophylla, Pennsylvania smartweed, common purslane, Spanish needles) and grass weeds/sedges (e.g., crabgrass, woolly cupgrass, foxtail, goosegrass, signalgrass), with a recommended application rate of 125–200 g a.i./ha.
